  • Essay / The Water is Rising - 952

Stumbling around her apartment, Riley's head throbbed from the constant complaining, rickety kids, and scandalous hours. She headed to the bathroom only to find she was out of Advil, slamming the closet door and checking the time on her wristwatch. “Great, looks like I’ll be getting takeout again,” she sighed. “Because I need to meditate.” Walking towards her room, she took off her shoes and felt her toes sink into the shaggy carpet. Riley headed straight to her closet to change into more casual clothes; remembering reports from a voyeur in the area. Coming out of the closet, she grabs a box of matches and a candle to help her meditate. Dropping to the ground Indian style, Riley places the candle in front of her, then lights a match to light the candle's wick and unconsciously evens out her breathing. She looks at the candle with a calm mind. Her body begins to sag as she sinks deeper, then tenses as she feels all the negativity of the day bubbling up, ready to be released. Closing her eyes, she breathes harder, also expelling the broth of emotions that was brewing. Riley keeps her eyes closed as she immerses herself deeper, using a technique taught by her old yoga teacher. She drifts melancholy along the river of thoughts in her mind, letting them guide her. The sound of disturbed water falls on deaf ears as an elevator rises from the water opening its doors just in time for Riley not to hit them. They close gently as the water moves around his form, preventing him from hitting the walls. Opening her eyes, Riley sees the stained glass walls of the elevator and waits for them to fade as usual. Meanwhile, his physical form remains still, except for instinctive goosebumps and hair that slowly rises from a dark, shimmering gaze...... middle of paper ...er confinement in glass; I was afraid that if she moved, so would her owner, right next to the building. The water was now between chest and neck level. Eireann rocked back and forth on the balls of her toes, the wind rocking her, each swing pushing her to the point of death. seemed to suffocate him. The elevator was now completely filled with water, but Riley remained unconscious until she saw her dyed brown hair floating around her. Her eyes widened and she struck with more ferocity to not only save her father's life but her own as well. Even though she was banging on the doors, her ID ensured that a small thud was heard, then Ms. Sibaen's heartbreaking scream. At the sound of Mrs. Sibaen's scream, the glass elevator shattered; become one with water.
