School reforms are not a new concept or trend; they have developed since the creation of our country's education system. School reforms aim to improve the education system; in fact, it prepares our children to be more globally competitive. The school reform I decided to research is single-sex schooling. This is the idea that students perform better academically when they are in classes with only same-sex classmates. I've only had one (experimental) class like this: my 6th grade science class. Whether or not being in an all-male room improved my test scores compared to my other classes or other students in mixed classes, I have no idea, which is why I decided to do some research on this school reform. It was definitely a different experience, but like many others, I wanted to know if it worked. As such, this could be a revolutionary discovery that would benefit the next American generation. However, there are opponents of single-sex classes, and we will listen to what they (and their supporters) have to say on the subject. Although single-sex schooling seems like a new and innovative concept, it has actually existed since the settlement of England's original colonies. Surprisingly, its roots are discriminatory: in colonial times, boys were taught science, writing and numeracy while girls only learned to cook and sew.
