Ethics programs should be overseen by high-ranking individuals known to uphold legal and ethical standards. Ethics officers are responsible for managing their organization's ethics and legal compliance programs. They are responsible for assessing the needs and risks that an organization-wide ethics program must address, developing and disseminating a code of conduct or ethics, conducting training programs for employees, to establish and maintain a confidential service to answer employee questions on ethical issues, to ensure that the company complies with government regulations, to monitor and audit ethical conduct, to take action in cases of possible violations of the Company Code, and review and update the Code. Ethics officers are able to reduce violations of codes of conduct by up to seventy-five percent. Ethics officers are another essential part of a successful ethics program.
