  • Essay / Why People Should Recycle - 883

Why People Should RecycleI'm not a big Earth advocate, but I believe in recycling because I work at a local recycling center and I think recycling is a good thing. In fact, I think everyone should recycle to make the Earth better as a whole. Here are some good reasons why recycling is a good thing: The more people recycle, the less space there is in landfills. Additionally, when people recycle, they reuse materials, thereby saving resources. Another good reason is that when you recycle often, you get reimbursed for the CRV you already paid at the grocery store. If everyone recycled, think of the extra space there would be in landfills around the world. There is only a limited amount of space on this earth and we use a lot of it for our waste. Clearlake, California, on a busy day alone can bring 80,000 pounds of trash to the local landfill. I know this because I work at the local Mckinleyville landfill. I also see a lot of people throwing away their waste for the simple reason that they are too lazy to sort it. I watch bags after bags of plastic, aluminum, and glass thrown into the trash that we haul directly to a landfill in Anderson, California. If everyone in Mckinleyville recycled plastic, aluminum and glass, they could save thousands of pounds a day by putting them in landfill. I think people don't know that waste is a big problem in this world. But in reality, conservation is a problem, and resources and energy are not very abundant. One day these resources will run out. But the more we recycle, the longer we can make these resources last. If everyone recycled, there would be less need to make new materials from unused resources; instead, they would be made with recycled materials. Recycling saves a lot of natural resources because every time you transfer something to the recycling center, part of it is reused for a future product. In fact, I read once that for every aluminum can recycled, a quarter is used for a new can. That twenty-five percent can add up in the long run. When people don't recycle the plastic bottle, aluminum can, or glass bottle that's in their trash, it's only used once and then sent to a landfill just to take up space..
