  • Essay / Technology Trends - 1930

    INTRODUCTIONIt seems like every year people are turning more and more to technology to live their lives. It has flooded society, families, jobs and lives. Three emerging trends that overlap in some ways are specifically related to living in a technological world. These trends are especially important to school librarians because many students live their lives through the Web. In order to reach these students, the librarian must know the trends and applications and be able to use and apply them in a library setting. By using them, the librarian makes the library relevant to students and brings the library to students where they are. The first trend is social communication through various tools on the web; the second trend consists of using collaborative tools and sharing information with as many people as possible via the Web; the third trend is that of social networks via the Web. Although some of the apps listed under each of these trends have been around for a while, every day more and more platforms or apps are developed, and sometimes these platforms could easily fit into more one of these trend categories. Library professionals are charged with the task of not only keeping up with the ever-changing technological world, but also being leaders in the use of technology. Trends and applications that fit into these trends will be discussed in the following sections. Additionally, some of the applications will be discussed along with ideas for using these applications in a library setting, particularly in a school library setting, although many applications may be applicable to other types of libraries.
