I believe that the effects of war on the soldier's family at home are not recognized. When people talk about war, they focus primarily on the men at war, although the effects can be far-reaching on mothers and children left at home. Having a deployed husband creates stress on the family; war not only affects spouses and children, it also affects friends and other extended family members. If one parent is deployed, the other parent is responsible for household and family roles. The mother will have to continually reassure her children and other family members that everything will be fine while trying to reassure themselves. Spouses and children are both affected in immense and different ways and it is important that people are aware of these challenges. Soldiers' wives must embody the roles of mother and father when the deployed parent is at war. This results in double the amount of work at home and more responsibilities on their behalf; just having to do these tasks at home creates stress and anxiety. The sp...
