Essay / Importance of the Marine Ecosystem - 1906
Noise pollution is often caused by "ships, sonars, oil rigs, and even natural sources like earthquakes, which can disrupt patterns migration, communication, hunting and reproduction of many marine animals. particularly aquatic mammals such as whales and dolphins” [Marine Pollution, Para 7]. Noise pollution is carried by ocean currents and waves, as are garbage dumps. Many animals, such as whales, use series of sounds that travel through currents in order to communicate across the ocean. Human-made noise primarily affects the creatures that inhabit the areas, but still affects the ecosystem as a whole. Most underwater life functions the same as above.
