    INTRODUCTIONThis proposal handles Anglo-Saxon customary practice as described in the medieval chivalric epic Beowulf. Practices are examined in association with Anglo-Saxon culture, religion and conventions. The ceremonies of a social order are influenced by religion since the religious beliefs of the Anglo-Saxons were quite contradictory, customs differed according to time and era, and there were often different ceremonies practiced in the same place at the same time. It studies how pagan practices are supported by archaeological or scientific confirmation and how they were influenced by the Christian author. Funeral Rituals There were many methods of burial in pagan times. In all parts of Britain distinctive burials were practiced and several different burial practices were often used at once. The custom of burial was not consistent; Bronsted says that one explanation behind this is that pagan individuals had exceptionally vague thinking about life after death, and so there was doubt about what to do with their deceased (222). An alternative hypothesis is proposed by Collingwood; he believes that the conflict of the funeral ritual is created by the impact of Britain. The British population was solid in some areas, but definitely mingling with the Anglo-Saxon conquerors in other areas.
