Essay / Women's Obsession with Weight Loss - 1369
The fulfillment one feels every time the weight on the scale decreases or the guilt when the numbers increase or fluctuate is one of the many symptoms of the obsession with weight loss. What is it about weight loss that makes a person feel so triumphant? It feels good to know that you are close to looking like the models in commercials, when you can wear smaller sizes or when you get compliments that you look beautiful because you lost all your baby fat and your double chin. You might lose five pounds and the next thing you know, your next goal is to lose five more, then five more, and five more and so on. How far are you willing to go to achieve the image of beauty? There are an endless amount of diet techniques on the market and they all promise a better, healthier version of yourself. This trend is so popular these days that it's everywhere in ads, products, services, and more. It takes over daily life. The obsession with meeting society's expectations is dizzying; people are willing to devote themselves to these diets to have that ideal image of ideal beauty. People spend so much money on weight loss programs, exercise equipment, diet drugs and surgery that the weight loss industry is now worth $60 billion.
