    Historically, race has been taught or understood with a particular focus on people of color, or more specifically, black people. The theory of whiteness, however, did not emerge until the 1980s and 1990s (Seidman, 2013, 234). This theory brings out similar ideas and theories seen throughout history, but with whiteness studies, they are viewed through a different approach. The goal of whiteness studies is to expose the social origin of whiteness and challenge its privileged status, and the approach is structured not only by the lives of white people, but also by those of non-white people.
