Essay / Grand Essay on Migration - 1143
In the North, housing for all the new arrivals was difficult. It became very difficult to buy housing and apartments were overcrowded and very unsanitary. Neighborhoods were also becoming single-race zones. In addition to living conditions, with all the new workers moving into cities, competition for jobs has skyrocketed. However, not all changes were bad: without the Great Migration, our country would be completely different today. Due to neighborhood segregation, the Harlem Renaissance was born, a literary movement composed of African-Americans from segregated areas. Additionally, African Americans were able to receive better education, which better equipped them to access higher-paying jobs. Finally, they created a more culturally diverse society, which ultimately led to gender equality.
