Essay / Essay on Environmental Problems in China - 1305
Any potential solutions proposed by China will have to be implemented on such a colossal scale in order to be effective, making it more difficult to implement a solution. One of China's best-known environmentalists, Ma Jun, says the main obstacle to environmental protection is "lack of motivation." The public needs to come together to motivate them, but they need to be informed on the issue so they can provide meaningful help. However, it will be difficult for the public to come together as many consumers prioritize achieving what they want in life, such as a house, a car and a family. Most consumers who fight for the environment are those who have already achieved what they wanted and succeeded. In recent years, the public has become increasingly vocal about environmental issues through social media and increasing numbers of street protests, putting pressure on policymakers. It is difficult for the Chinese government to find a balance where the environmental consciousness of the population increases and there is massive pressure for better quality of life and improved urbanization. And we can see that the government is trying to find this balance by changing its environmental policies.
