    Failure – Acceptors focus solely on playing sports, which is why they are more dedicated to the demands of athletics. These student-athletes will devote more time and effort to the sport (Simons, Rheenen, and Covington, 2014). Failure acceptors have only one academic motivation which is “to remain at least academically eligible to practice their sport” (Simons, Rheenen and Covington, 2014, p.444). This quote explains that student-athletes only work on academics to maintain a certain GPA in order to continue playing. On the other hand, the failure of failure-avoidants plays a much larger role in causing them to spend less time and effort on academics and engage more in athletics. This type of athlete works to avoid failure. These students “often have low self-esteem due to a history of academic failure” (Simons, Rheenen, and Covington, 2014, p. 435). This academic failure could be the reason that made them become more interested in athletics and changed what they were most motivated to do. These two types of athletes show that the action of undertaking a sport demands more from them mentally and
