Essay / Contemporary Religion in America - 791
Religion is a very difficult subject to discuss. Discussing religion is crossing a minefield. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs. In contemporary America, it is now common to turn away from established religions or to have no religion at all. It is not hard to believe how science and technology have played a major role in contemporary religion in America by making our society secular. As our ability to gain knowledge through technology expands, it allows people to analyze their own religion and interpret it in their own way. The religion has sparked much debate about its origins. Some findings suggest that some sort of religion was present since the beginning of humanity. Evidence of sacrificial ceremonies can relate the relationship between man and animal, as well as between man and his natural environment. Another theory on the birth of religion came from the “Middle East” based on the polytheistic views of the Hindus. They believed that there were gods and goddesses of fire, wind, rain and earth, which led them to make ceremonial prayers for rain, sun or health. The pantheistic views of African and Native American cultures briefly meant that everything is God. And the monotheistic views which would come from 2000 BC. One can only wonder what purpose does religion serve in today’s society? And what does society as a whole think it needs to know? America is a melting pot of cultures and races. Thus, bringing many types of religious beliefs into today's society. Whether beliefs are old, new, reconstructed, or people have no faith at all, it's all happening in America. It is difficult to examine one religion without examining another. All religions have various beliefs ranging from: the belief of...... middle of paper......or being reborn in nature. This means that people are still afraid to ask the question: what is the next step after death? I think contemporary religion in America has not completely lost sight of its purpose. Society as a whole cannot have just one goal. Every member of society needs to know how to find their purpose in life and their reason for being. Although the goal is always to adapt, people can always answer the questions they ask; what is the meaning of life? Who are we ? Where are we? Where will we go? Whether through Scientology, Christianity, Buddhism or Islam, it is possible to answer these questions. People still go to church, temples, mosques, synagogues, etc., for the same reasons as they did long ago, to worship and be seized by a higher being. People believe that having a relationship with God or nature helps them achieve their life's purpose..
