Factors that can cause panic disorder are biological, psychological and social factors. Stress is widespread as a psychological factor. Stress is usually caused by life-changing events. A stressful event could be the stress of a job or school, a divorce, or, in the patient's case, the death of a loved one. Stress causes headaches and high blood pressure which will likely lead to a panic attack. Situations such as heart rate and high blood pressure can become external and internal signals that can be associated with panic attacks, which can cause these signals to become conditioned as a stimulus for panic attacks.
