It is theorized that this will happen when we create "true AI", essentially when a computer becomes capable of learning and adapting like a human on its own . It's not uncommon to hear reports in the technology news explaining that the singularity is only a few years away. To me this seems incredibly sensationalistic, we are still a long way from having computers that reason the way humans do. People frequently point the finger at AIs like Smart Bot and Igod, these programs are knockoffs whose conversations break down after a few sentences and even an AI with a good deal of general knowledge like IBM's Watson can't contain a real human.
