Essay / Benefits of Electronic Communication - 1207
Resistance to change is often a challenge that any new system faces. Some agents use older communication systems to the extent that accepting electronic services becomes a challenge. The same resistance is also observed in patients who prefer to use methods they are familiar with. This makes it difficult to implement new programs aimed at improving the quality of communication. Besides resistance, there are also financial implications for medical facilities. Initial set-up costs are substantial (DePhillips, 2011). Expensive equipment such as workstations, routers, servers, data cables, printers and software must be acquired. Most of these fees are not billed to patients. There are also cumulative maintenance costs that must be realized with continued use of electronic communication.
