Some have wondered whether Senator Richard Nixon lied and manipulated the people when he spoke to regain his own integrity. This is a subject that many have questioned among politicians of the past. The text "Checkers" was spoken by Senator Richard M. Nixon in 1952. The text was published by AmericanRhetoric.com. Senator Nixon wrote this text to persuade the American people to believe that he is an honest man. When Senator Nixon was accused of illegally taking $18,000 from his supporters; he explained how the money was used to save American taxpayers from having to pay for his political affairs. Then Senator Nixon talked about his independent audit and financial history, so he could prove the money was not intended for his personal gain. Senator Richard Nixon also expressed his wife's importance and hard work, and the fact that they planned and saved for their home and all their possessions. Continuing, Senator Nixon questioned whether his opponents were as honest and honest as they claimed to be, and blamed the Truman Acheson administration, which his opponents supported, for the war against communism. Ultimately, Senator Nixon left it up to the American people to decide whether or not he should remain in the running for the vice presidency. In a well-written speech, Senator Nixon convinces the audience by appealing to ethos, pathos, and logos; he claims he would never use the money for personal gain, paints a perfect picture of himself and his wife, and expresses how inferior his opponents are in comparison. In doing so, Senator Nixon forces the people to stop blaming him and to blame his opponents. This begs the question whether Senator Nixon is an honest man or just an excellent speaker who knows what people want to hear; which leads to the real question of whether politicians are honest men or are they just reprehensible when it comes to lies and manipulation?
