    What prevents this government from being caught up in the agendas and interests of the larger states, especially since the proposed federal government would be republican? Their concerns about power come from three major aspects: fiscal power, military power, and judicial power. The proposed government has no limits on how it can tax people. Having the ability to do this is a power beyond all others, since, as Brutus says "...it connects to almost all other powers, or at least, over time, drives all others after him; it is the great means of protection, security and defense in good government, and the great engine of oppression and tyranny in bad government. This power is also linked to the ability to raise an army. Having the power and loyalty of a military to enforce the laws could be extremely dangerous if the government decided to oppress the people or the states. Their final concern is the Supreme Court and its broad power that applies to all civil cases. This could allow the government to circumvent any power of the states and overturn their decisions. If the government can ignore the authority of the state government, what's to stop it from removing them, since they would only get in the way? Anti-federalists fear that a single federal government is too
