Essay / The Creation of the World - 747
The Creation of the WorldThe creation of the earth and everything within the earth is both mysterious and miraculous. Although there are probably hundreds of different accounts, they all look different even though their text is almost identical. I will compare and contrast the priestly narrative and the Yahwist narrative in the book of Genesis. Along with these stories, I will discuss key elements of creation theology and eco-spirituality in the world and how they fit into my life. These two versions of creation can be distinguished in various ways. The two stories differed in how they were told, how humans were created, the purpose of a human's life, and the image and role God played. The first difference is how humans and the world around them were created. In the priestly account, the works of creation occurred in six days. On the first day God separated the light from the darkness, on the second day the water was divided above and below the dome. The third and fourth days consisted of the appearance of dry land and plants, as well as the sun, moon and stars placed on the firmament. Birds and fish were created on the fifth day and on the sixth day animals and humans appeared. The seventh day was God's day of rest, or as we know it, the Sabbath day, which represented the fullness of God. As for the Yawists' story, humans were created when there was no rain and no one to till the ground. The Yahwist fashioned man from the dust of the earth, then breathed into man's nostrils to give him life. It is from the same soil that the wild beasts and birds that roam the earth today came. Through this, God was known as a potter, because he brought man...from paper...from the earth, and gave him the strength and courage to tackle ecological problems. The human community must take the time to collaborate with God and protect all that He has created. The above can apply in my life in many ways, for example, it is important to live in moderation. If I live in moderation, I would help the world around us, by preserving our resources, because we are in an ecological crisis. If I make good judgment about the things I do and the things I choose to use, then maybe others will do the same, and maybe we can slow this erosion of natural materials from our world. Finally, if I maintain strength and courage in the face of these ecological problems, then perhaps I can help others understand our problem and gain their support in this fight. It is important to stay strong, in order to fight against problems such as nuclear and ecological problems..
