With current events constantly being a shooter or armed suspect targeting campuses, feeling safe at school should not be an option , this should be a priority. As a future teacher, I strive to protect my students, even if it means having a weapon in class. In addition to being a teaching assistant on a daily basis, it is essential to prepare for certain situations. But there are no protocols in place in the event of an emergency involving an armed attacker. Looking at Columbine High School, would a gun have stopped these teenagers? A gun could have easily stalled for the police to arrive. Teachers and school officials could have been armed and avoided deaths and injuries. A gun is an alternative for schools instead of hiding in the corner of a classroom. New protocols must be put in place to make schools safer. This would include having weapons in every class and new security plans. These safety plans would include exit routes and multiple plans for different
