Annie Johnson possessed a plethora of qualities that perpetuated her success. Among the many qualities she possessed, strength was essential to her success. An example proving Annie Johnson's strength was when her husband separated from her. Instead of going through a harrowing time, she immediately decided to do something different with her life. For example, when Annie says, "I looked at the road I was going and went back the way I came, and since I wasn't satisfied, I decided to leave the road and make a path for myself. new path” (par. 3) This quote illustrates Annie's mental strength to change her lifestyle, which is extremely difficult to achieve because she had little money, slight ability to read and add simple numbers and that she was black with 2 young sons. Not wanting to rely on someone else's care, this reduced his chances of getting a job. It was unnecessary and onerous work to "carve out a new path" (par. 11) in life, rather than follow that of others, but that is exactly what Annie accomplished.
