Essay / Evolution, intelligent design and creationism in schools
Evolution, intelligent design and creationism in schoolsHuman beings are curious by nature. Science illustrates this inherent nature that most people feel, at least to some extent. Science is the art of asking why. Why does the moon sometimes look like a perfect circle, a semi-circle, or disappear completely? Why do things fall to the ground when dropped? Why can a chair support a person against the force pulling them down? Why does a chair retain its shape, water takes the shape of its container, but remains in the same quantity, and the scent seems to fill the entire room? These are all questions that someone in history asked and then tried to figure out why for themselves. If there was no prior way to describe or classify these things, he would create a term to describe them. The chair is solid; it retains its shape whatever its container. Water is a liquid; liquids maintain their original volume, but move to fill the container in which they are placed. Perfume is a vapor which is a gas; it diffuses throughout the room, mixing with the existing air, conforming to both the volume and shape of the room. A question that many scientists have discussed and theorized about is how humans came to be, how humans created, and how humans got to where we are today. A predominant theory emerged, with roots in Charles Darwin's discoveries published in On the Origin of Species. This is the theory called evolution, or more precisely natural selection. This theory is now widely accepted by the scientific community as the only credible explanation of how humans came to inhabit the world. Since it has become so popular, it has also become part of the teaching curriculum in...... middle of paper ......t the different types of animals and plants have their origin in other pre-existing types and that the notable differences are due to changes during successive generations” (Evolution.) In fundamental terms, the theory of evolution states that over time species evolve, which simply means a change. As species evolve, if a certain trait arises that will benefit the species in some way, that trait is intentionally bred by the species. Once a species begins to mutate, it can evolve into another species. Evolutionists say that through this process of mutation and adaptation, all life forms arose from the same single-celled organism billions of years ago. This theory is heavily based on the research and discoveries of Charles Darwin while he traveled aboard the HMS Beagle to places like Brazil, Chile, Australia, the Falkland Islands and the Galapagos Islands..
