Essay / What I Learned in My Freshman Composition 1 Class
This class was the first class I took as a freshman because everyone could imagine that I I was scared and nervous at the same time. Also since it is a writing course; I was hesitant if I wanted to continue in this course because writing is very difficult for me as an immigrant. Returning from summer vacation, I found it extremely difficult to continue where I left off with my high school writing skills. The fear of writing that my old high school teacher instilled in me didn't help my writing anxiety either. On the other hand, I found that the professor and the course were not at all intimidating as I thought, the professor took time out of his busy schedule to help his students further improve their writing and the topics of writing was very stimulating and thought-provoking. Composition 1 helped me learn more about myself and my writing skills, which allowed me to self-evaluate more, find areas for improvement, and become motivated to change. As we approached the deadline for the first essay assignment, the professor asked us to share our introductory paragraph out loud with the class. Since I hardly knew any of my peers, I initially found the aspect of participation terrifying. However, after becoming familiar with my surroundings and peers, I felt comfortable sharing what I thought and receiving positive feedback. Such exposures helped me understand proper writing techniques, thereby giving a chance to get a better grade in any writing assignment. The group workshops were useful, as well as the assessment between two other students, which helped me identify my mistakes and improve these points later in my revision process. The transition from high school to college homework has led to a shake-up in the homework environment. ......dge said: “the more time you spend revising, the better your grade”. see the correlation and firmly believe it now. The biggest obstacle to overcome in the course was mainly myself and my old writing habits. Adapting to the course is a goal that must be overcome in a hurry, the longer it takes to adapt, the worse your grade will be. An essential aspect of adaptation is the ability to modify writing requirements depending on the class one is in. By determining the appropriate text to use in each class, it would help adapt to the course more quickly. In my history class, the writing consists mostly of facts piled on top of other facts without any set of techniques, while the writing class involves much more critical thinking. I extremely enjoyed this course as I found that I could express my own personal opinions while still maintaining the basics of my articles..
