'Macbeth' is a play by William Shakespeare that shows a protagonist going from bad to worse throughout the play. Shakespeare wrote this play with the current events of the time 1603-1606 in mind. This is the time when the Scottish King James I received the English crown. This king was obsessed with witches, so Shakespeare incorporated this theme heavily into the play. This also brings up the theme of betrayal of the king. This pleased King James and also pleased him to show the lineage of the Stuart Kings, descendants of James, in Act 4, Scene 1. The play “Macbeth” is a tragedy. The traditional specification of a tragedy requires that the tragic hero be a person occupying a high position and having to oppose a conflicting force, either externally or internally (a conflicting force of one's own state or another. Moreover , the hero must have a Hamartia, which is a tragic flaw This will lead to the hero's downfall, in this case, it is Macbeth's ambition that must lead to the hero's death for him to qualify as one. tragic hero and could happen at any time. Macbeth becomes a villain when he finds out that he will become king of Scotland. The traditional idea of a villain says that he or she must resort to evil methods to obtain. what he wants. he killed Duncan to become king of Scotland. A villain is also cruel and ruthless. The villain can also be a person who commits crimes against the people and is all powerful. even to meet him cast a spell which predicts that Macbeth will meet them at the moor. In the scene with the captain, we hear that Macbeth is like a hero and is loyal to his king. “O valiant cousin, worthy gentleman,” (I, ii)When we first hear of Macbeth, we learn that his descriptions are positive toward King Duncan. But they are also bloody. They say that Macbeth was a fierce warrior and was not afraid to kill in war. “Until he unheard it from the nave to the ribs” (I, ii). After Macbeth meets the witches, he fully supports the evil they tell. to get what he wants. Every time we see the witches, they appear as pure evil, especially when they cast their spells. “Liver of a blasphemous Jew” (IV, i). He still wants that, but has chosen quite the opposite. Just before Macbeth is killed in his castle, he speaks valiantly and like a warrior, showing where his strength lies. At the beginning of the play, we see Macbeth as a hero who would defend his king and country against traitors. He also feels very guilty about killing Duncan, and his own wife orders him to do it. When Macbeth becomes a villain, he becomes more detached from Lady Macbeth and can make decisions without her. With this, he becomes more ruthless in his efforts to remain king of Scotland and people describe him as "this tyrant" (V, iii) and "a dwarf thief" (V, ii). Throughout the play, whenever Macbeth attempts to achieve his ambition, he always blocks his good qualities in favor of a more villainous way. It is this ambition that leads him to become a miscreant later in the play, which leads to his downfall and eventual murder by Macduff..
