My progress through FAWFoundations of Academic Writing (FAW) is a course that the majority of first years are required to take. Even though it seems irritating and unnecessary at first, by the end of the first semester you start to realize how much you have actually learned. In high school you are taught the basics of writing, the initial foundation if you will, now come to college and you can feel like you are lost in the sea of writing with little going for you keep afloat. FAW quickly becomes your lifeboat and makes it easier for you to learn to write correctly at an academic level. Although some students still claim that FAW is not worth it, those who put in the effort and use it to their advantage benefit greatly from this course. FAW has helped me improve many aspects of my writing, showed me how to properly use things I already knew, and helped me become a better writer overall. Starting college with little to no knowledge of what was going to be expected. of me quickly became very stressful. I spent so much time worrying about doing everything perfectly all the time that I ended up getting so frustrated that my grades started to suffer greatly. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), “students often have difficulty differentiating between everyday anxiety and a true anxiety disorder” (ADAA website). For me, FAW helped me learn so many new things that it was easier for me to relax and write confidently knowing I was going to do well. This is one of the benefits I noticed while taking FAW: the better you knew how to write correctly, the better you felt going into new assignments.
