    In the 17th century, a writer named Aphra Behn became a leader in English literature. After a difficult start, Behn persevered to become the first professional female writer. With her feminist views, she revolutionized writing and her impact in the 17th century would change modern writing. Behn was an intelligent writer who wrote lively, vibrant plays and poetry. Behn made an impact on the world, not only through her writing, but also through her determination and the voice of her feminist views. Behn demonstrated strength and courage by persevering through his struggles and tragedies. Aphra, a talented writer, demonstrated her strong opinions that set her apart from other writers. Aphra did not go to school, but she gained her education through various contacts who taught her both literature and music (Brackett). Due to Behn's debt, she began writing to earn a source of income. (“Aphra Behn is baptized”). Behn's writing skills were very different from those of average male and female writing. His writings differed in that Behn attracted attention for his forthright views on female sexuality. (Van Renen). Behn lived during the Restoration, which accepted more sexual allusions in literature than the decades immediately following. With the rise of feminism during her century, Behn's works re-emerged through feminist criticism to a generation of readers who explored them as examinations of gender, race, and class, illustrating her contribution to history (Brackett). Behn made an impact on English literature by not being afraid to express her feminist views. Her writing style was different from other writers of the time because regardless of the genre, she used a very distinct voice.
