In life, we all encounter times when we have to make a choice between following our own will and following what society thinks we should do. Throughout the story Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, the main character is an orphan taken in by her evil aunt who sends her to school. After graduating from school and teaching at that school, she became a governess at Thornfield. There she falls in love with her boss, Mr. Rochester. She runs away after discovering terrible secrets and meets St. John and his two sisters, who she later discovers are her cousins. St. John begins to observe Jane and her habits and sees that she would be a compatible missionary wife for him. Jane had a turning point in the book when she rejected St. John's offer of marriage. In that moment, she learns that being free doesn't make her as happy as being with someone she loves.
