The purpose of this memorandum is to provide you with information on the ethical conduct expected of all state police officers and employees of the State Police Department . It has been brought to my attention that several ethical violations are committed regularly by police officers and staff of this department. This memo will explain the ethical dilemmas officers in this department face on a daily basis and what is expected of each. It is essential that the ministry maintains an impeccable ethical standard. (“Noble cause corruption”, 2010) As a ministry, we must not only set a minimum standard of conduct for our officers, but also aspire to set high targets for all our employees. As public officials, we must strive to be vigilant against corruption and remain ethically sound. The trust of the citizens of the state is an important issue that must be preserved. The police profession is a noble profession and attracts individuals who exhibit certain characteristics such as being responsible and having an authoritative personality and who act on behalf of others without regard for their own safety and well-being -be. Many of these officers have a preconceived idea of what the profession is and how to make the world safer for all citizens. (“Noble Cause Corruption,” 2010) (Martinelli, 2006) As police officers here in America, we enjoy a great degree of authority and accountability to our citizens. Our powers are granted to us by the government and give us the powers and responsibilities to be assertive and authoritative. We are supposed to arrest citizens and detain them if they are guilty of breaking the middle of paper. ..... a police force that will uphold the standards and ethics we need to care for citizens and society as they expect.
