  • Essay / Environmental problems in Africa and the role of...

IntroductionAfrica is the second largest and most populous continent in the world after Asia. With 1.0 billion people in 2009, this represents approximately 14.72% of the total human population. Africa suffers from many environmental problems, including deforestation, oil pollution, air pollution, and land and water pollution. This problem is due to new technologies which are leading to an increase in solid mineral mining, oil exploration, an increase in the number of factories and factories, and overall an increase in the application manufacturing tools. As a result, the quality and richness of terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments have been polluted and diminished. Other factors contributing to Africa's environmental problems are rapid population growth (2.2 percent per year), energy consumption, overgrazing, overexploitation of land and globalization. This region is made up of mostly developing countries, and over the years it has only recently become preoccupied with environmental issues. The major concern of the government for many years has been the provision of basic social amenities to the population and development. Environmental protection was comparable to the preservation of natural resources, while the fight against industrial pollution and the management of hazardous waste were considered incomprehensible. However, environmental problems constitute one of the main challenges of the African continent today. These problems prevent Africa from progressing in economic development because these problems are not fully understood and addressed accordingly. The focus is now gradually shifting from politics, wars and poverty to how best to deal with environmental problems.Environmental Issues - AfricaThe impact of environmental decline on...... middle of paper .... ..ic or social. The African government must look at what other developed countries that have gone through similar problems have done to resolve their environmental problems. Developed countries like Europe and America should be used as a reference to solve the highlighted problems. Finally, environmental issues require regular monitoring, evaluations and public reporting to the state. Works cited African society. (2008). Solving environmental problems in Africa.
