Essay / Fine arts courses are necessary - 1101
Fine arts courses benefit both students and schools. Fine arts is a necessary course, not only as an elective, but also as a core course that promotes learning and creativity in students' lives. There are three different learning styles: auditory, visual and kinesthetic. Fine arts offers an opportunity to use all of these learning styles in the same class period; therefore, all students are able to understand and benefit from the program. In a normal academic setting, not all types of learning can be used, so a percentage of the class will not understand the lessons as well as they might have if the arts were incorporated into the class. It may seem impossible to include the arts in an academic setting, but it is possible, effective and fun. According to Barry Oreck, students learning about molecular bonds through dance have been proven to have a better understanding of the concept. He states, “We found that if you learn something through a play, you can always answer a test question” (New Horizons Dickerson 3). This statement proves that the arts are extremely important and beneficial. With fine arts, students benefit from a safe environment to express themselves, motivation to stay in school, and better test scores. The fact that fine arts is necessary is obvious, but will schools respond or live in denial? The arts provide a safe environment where students can express themselves without fear of ridicule. These children should have the opportunity to participate in multiple fine arts-related activities in order to communicate their feelings in a healthy atmosphere (Weber). Green Lake Elementary School believes its students "learn a positive learning attitude for the rest of their lives, celebrate the uniqueness of...... middle of paper..... . Getting into school is not as difficult as it seems. Including the arts in the classroom is as simple as playing music. There is evidence that simply listening to music or even a simple beat engages both sides of the brain and helps it learn more effectively (Weber 1). Even though this country is in an economic recession, fine arts are a necessity for schools. The arts may cost a little more money, but ultimately the benefits of keeping fine arts in the school system will bring rewards never imagined. Students will have a safe place to express themselves, motivation to stay in school, and score higher on tests. The fine arts are obviously necessary; So now, what will we do to ensure that the arts have a permanent place in schools? Will people realize the difference the arts make and change their habits, or will the voice of fine arts diminish and die ??
