Mysterious lights, unusual fog and mist, faulty electrical equipment and the disappearance of ships and planes are just some of the phenomena that have occurred in the Western Atlantic Ocean. It was not until the 1960s that a journalist began to take an interest in the many unexplained events in this region known as the Bermuda Triangle (Duffield). No one knows why this phenomenon occurs, but there are theories that may well explain what is happening in the Bermuda Triangle. The Bermuda Triangle is an area of water in the Atlantic Ocean that connects Miami, Florida, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Bermuda Islands together and forms a triangle (What is the Bermuda Triangle) . Even though it is only part of the Atlantic Ocean, the Bermuda Triangle has been known to cause transportation problems over the years (What is the Bermuda Triangle). There are many accounts of boats and planes disappearing once they have entered the Bermuda Triangle (What is the Bermuda Triangle). The most famous disappearance in the Bermuda Triangle is that of Flight 19 (What is the Bermuda Triangle). Flight 19 consisted of five single-engine torpedo bomber aircraft (What is the Bermuda Triangle). The pilot in charge was a man named Lieutenant Charles C. Taylor (What the Bermuda Triangle). Lt. Taylor had over 1,000 flight hours, so some might say he was a very experienced pilot (What is the Bermuda Triangle). The other four pilots each had approximately 350 to 400 flight hours (What is the Bermuda Triangle). Flight 19 was practicing low-level bombing techniques that day, then was instructed to return home (What is the Bermuda Triangle).
