The idea of women's rights and equality has been imported to Hong Kong for more than 60 years. However, inequality persists in this country and women face increasingly unfair treatment when it comes to employment opportunities. Female workers represent only a minority of all workers in key sectors and earn approximately less than male workers. More than half of the complaints received by the Equal Opportunities Commission concerned workplaces, of which more than forty percent were gender-related (NGO). Some women in mainland China must accept unfair conditions, such as a ban on pregnancy or marriage while the contract is in force, in order to be employed (Chiu). A number of female workers believe that discrimination against women in the workplace is due to employers' concerns. According to Kingsley, he explains that women are genetically less aggressive than men. Women are less likely to seek dominance and are reluctant to take risks. They cooperate with people rather than compete with others, which makes them less attractive to employers. Wassener reports that women around the world have found that having a child is often a turning point for them.
