Members of the psychological safety team must be confident that they will receive respect and consideration from others. Team psychological safety encourages open discussion of difficult issues. Not only does she tolerate disagreements, but she nurtures contrasting points of view. These qualities contribute to an organization's resilience by encouraging engagement and creativity. 1) Demonstrating civility is the most available contribution people can make to creating and maintaining psychological safety. Paying attention to what others are contributing and responding with consideration not only reduces anxiety but encourages creative thinking. 2) Argue respectfully. Contrasting ideas are the greatest source of creativity, but people only remain open to disagreements. 3) Only make encouraging comments to others. Humor does not excuse put-downs or make someone palatable. People really don't like it. Things to keep in mind Promoting psychological safety is a shared responsibility. The group leader makes an important contribution, but others can amplify or undermine the leader's efforts. And often, peer respect matters more when it comes to the psychological safety and ongoing resilience of a work group. Team Emotions Moods, emotions, and general dispositions impact team performance, particularly on decision-making, creativity, teamwork, negotiations, and conflict resolution. Different types of feelings:  Discrete and short-lived emotions, such as joy, anger, fear and disgust.  Moods, which are longer in the middle of paper......  gets buy-in  brings out concerns  defines issues  brings everyone into the discussion  stays neutral  uses good body language  continually paraphrase  provide feedback  accept and use feedback  check time and pace  provide helpful feedback  monitor and adjust the process  ask relevant and probing questions  keep an open attitude  maintain positive body language  offers suggestions  is upbeat and positive  handles conflict well Additional observations:  takes a problem-solving approach  stays focused on the process  exchanges ideas  takes careful notes that reflect the discussion  appears calm and pleasant  is flexible in changing the approach used  skilfully summarizes what is being said
