  • Essay / Physical and mental abilities are a sport

In our modern society, many sports play a major role in American culture. There are several conflicting views on what constitutes a sporting activity. I believe that any activity that involves physical and mental abilities should be a sport. To be a sportsman, an individual must demonstrate that they possess both qualifications. I believe that physical activities like tennis, football, basketball, baseball, and recreational activities like dancing and cheerleading are sports. Say no to plagiarism. To be able to perform well in these sporting activities, an individual must possess coordination, concentration, balance, speed, strength, flexibility, agility and time reaction skills. I don't believe physical activities such as eating contests, horseback riding, and motocross qualify as sports. These activities did not require physical preparation or mental practice for an individual to perform them. Two physical activities that I believe qualify as sports are dancing and cheerleading. If a dancer does not follow a dance step correctly, the individual can be seriously injured. Cheerleaders are often seen on the sidelines of football and basketball games supporting their teams. Cheerleading is a sport because it involves physical exercises and mental skills. A cheerleader must be physically fit as the individual undergoes rigorous training of warm-up stretches, uses a lot of energy practicing dance steps, tumbling, heel stretches and splits to perform a perfect routine. Cheerleading can be considered a dangerous sport. A team of cheerleaders must perform flips, lift and hold another individual in the air for a complete stunt sequence without letting the person fall. Any small mistake in a given routine can cause a serious injury or break a body part. In modern society, people are taught what is considered a sport and what is not. I think some video games should be considered sports. Video gamers spend a lot of time developing new skills that will help them win games. They must have a quick reaction time. The player's brain must keep up with the pace of the action to be able to increase hand-eye coordination, as games constantly cycle through different scenarios. In preparation for certain video games, team members must eat healthily, do yoga exercises and sometimes train for eight hours a day. Single players can practice alone for five hours. The video games that I don't consider sports are the ones that.
