  • Essay / The fight to help the snow leopard - 2462

An endangered species is "any species...that is in danger of extinction due to rapid and sudden decline in its population or loss of its habitat” (Dublin, par. 1). One animal that falls into this category is the “Panthera Uncia” (Dublin, par. 1) – more commonly known as the snow leopard. This animal is considered a threat to many people in Central Asia, the leopard's natural habitat. However, the conclusion is inaccurate. The snow leopard is a rare creature, barely visible to humans. This animal is insulated by thick fur and has huge paws that act like snowshoes. Snow leopards have powerful legs that allow them to jump up to at least fifty feet. In addition to their unique body style, they have a long tail that helps them keep their balance and can protect them from the cool mountain air (National Geographic, par. 1). This innocent animal is being destroyed by humanity. Humans invade his house. So he needs help before it's too late. The snow leopard is a vital link in its natural habitat in Central Asia; Immediate steps must be taken by the world to prevent its extinction. The story of the snow leopard begins in 1972, when it was first listed as an endangered species. Several factors contribute to the endangerment of this magnificent mammal. These would include the destruction of their habitat and increased poaching. Although people have tried to solve this problem, there is still much to be done to save the snow leopard. The snow leopard's environment and habitat are being destroyed; therefore, leading to their endangerment. The snow leopard's territory disappears without anyone noticing.
