Essay / Racial Profiling - 1046
There has always been racial profiling in our history. The problem here is that at some point, those who are oppressed and discriminated against, sooner or later, will explain why they are treated unequally. There are many examples around the world, but you only need to look at how American society has been designed to realize the vast difference between individuals. It was even normal and acceptable to see these differences during the creation of this nation, because those who were supposed to have the power and the conquering knowledge took care to create a huge division between leaders and subordinates. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, racial profiling refers to the discriminatory practice of law enforcement officials of targeting individuals suspected of crime based on their race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, their socio-economic class, their sexual orientation, etc. (American Civil Liberties Union) This means that the authorities responsible for ensuring security and justice have taken this power to the point where they discriminate against people, especially those who belong to disadvantaged groups. This type of social problem is more evident when episodes with violence are trending topics. For example, during and after the September 11 attacks in New York, many Arabs, Muslims, and South Asians were subjected to retrials and detentions because authorities had no idea how these attacks mentioned had been perpetrated and who had perpetrated them. This was not just a matter concerning the authorities, there was little condemnation by society at large of the entire Eastern community, even though many of those arrested, detained and interrogated had no connection to this terrorist event. ...... middle of paper ...... e people to maintain an equal ideology, there are people who believe that stereotypes in minorities are generalized and that if some people do illicit activity, therefore the Others should probably do this too. This is a horrible mistake that should be eradicated not only in our nation, but throughout the world. American Civil Liberties Union Works Cited. Racial profiling: definition. December 1, 2013.
