In general, social revolution does not happen overnight. The idea that someone can be enslaved, treated like material objects, beaten, tortured, humiliated and denied their education is despicable and contrary to human rights. These difficult situations will ruin their family. This creates a hellish environment in which their children grow up. How can we expect them to overcome this hideous behavior towards human beings? What is racism? Why do we have racism? Growing up, I thought it was confusion, discrimination, hating someone because of their skin color. About 50 years ago, the civil rights movement (1954-1968) made racism illegal and less socially acceptable. That's a good thing, right? But this indirectly creates some side effects of the Civil Rights Movement. First, an increased belief in a “post-racial” society. Second, it allowed white people to blame the continued struggle of the black community as flawed.
