Essay / Living the Indigenous Way - 869
Indigenous people are one of the few remaining indigenous peoples in our world. Aboriginal people live in Australia and, like many indigenous people/groups, have been mistreated for years. However, they are treated better today than before, but as an older group with old traditions, it is difficult to live in the same world as people who do not live according to their culture. In this article, Aboriginal history will first be compared to current times, followed by/before a description of two issues facing Australia's indigenous people at present, and finally there will be a conclusion. Aboriginal people arrived in Australia around 50,000 years ago in Asia, but they migrated from Africa to Asia around 70,000 years ago. Aborigines are the indigenous people of Australia. They were the only ones to live on the continent until colonization in 1788 by the United Kingdom. The biggest consequence of this colonization was that the British brought with them diseases such as measles, tuberculosis and smallpox. In the 19th century, smallpox was the leading cause of death among Aboriginal people. Aboriginal people primarily speak English, but they have a variety of their own language which they speak in phrases and words to create an Aboriginal English language. Before the English settled in Australia, the Aborigines spoke more than 250 languages, while today they speak around fifteen. They traditionally believed in animist spiritual frameworks, while currently only 1% still believe in animism and 73% believe in Christianity. The animist spiritual framework includes belief in animals, Mother Nature and they have a deep love for nature. However, we now see that Australian indigenous culture has changed. Aboriginal worship...... middle of paper ......f domestic violence and community unrest. Australia's indigenous people have unfortunately had a lot to deal with since the first European settlement in 1788, such as disease, colonization and estrangement from family. The aborigines are no longer allowed to live as before, as new laws have been created for the people. The Aboriginal person is forced to live like any other Australian in Australia, even if they are sometimes treated differently. Some people believe that these people have been mistreated over the years, and many agree with that. For a long time, Aboriginal people were essentially treated like animals. It was their country, but they were still treated like bad guys. The aborigines now have many things to face, such as education and crime, but the Australian people are doing their best to help these people out of all the difficulties..
