    The Mexican Drug Cartel is made up of many different cartels, but the main one is the Sinaloa Cartel. The Sinaloa cartel is one of the most dangerous cartels in Mexico, it is also the most optimistic cartel in Mexico, they go very far in their plans. The leader of the Sinaloa Cartel is Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman, considered one of the most powerful drug lords in the world. There aren't many organizations trying to stop cartels, other than the DEA, which stands for Drug Enforcement Administration. The drug cartel involves smuggling drugs to many parts of the world, but primarily to the United States because they share borders and are the closest place to transport drugs. Mexico also became the main route for Colombian cocaine bound for the United States” (Bates). According to Bates, when the Guadalajara leader was arrested in 1989, the remaining capo groups, including the younger Guzman, divided the trafficking routes, creating the Sinaloa, Juarez and Tijuana cartels. Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman, 56, is responsible for half of the illegal narcotics imported into the United States each year. “El Chapo,” meaning shorty, is considered the most powerful drug lord in the world. In 1993, El Chapo was arrested and allegedly fled in a laundry truck in 2001. Sinaloa became the largest drug trafficking organization in Mexico. El Chapo supplies eighty percent of the drugs entering the United States, primarily in Chicago. People say El Chapo has been controlling Sinaloa's drug operations since he was hiding somewhere in the mountains of Durango.
