  • Essay / Creative History: The Secret of Aloysius - 1842

How could he describe his grandfather? Then he remembered what his mother had said. "He looks like me - only older and missing his left toe. He fought the giant snake." "He's missing a toe, isn't he?" » asked Chester. When Chester spoke, he whistled through his large front teeth. Aloysius had never heard anyone speak like that. His mother and father always taught him to be kind. He said nothing about Chester's speech impediment. This was the first chipmunk Aloysius had met, he didn't realize that all chipmunks spoke with a whistle. Something to do with their big front teeth, I suppose. “Come with me,” Chester shouted. Suddenly, Chester started running so fast that Aloyouis could barely keep him in sight. He jumped as fast and as long as he could without knowing where he would land. Once he came across a large beetle. “Excuse me,” Aloysius shouted as he walked away. The beetle just stared at him then hurried off. As he bounced, Aloysius became frightened. On either side of him, the dark forest seemed to close in. He almost stopped, then he remembered his mother's sad face when she talked about grandfather. Chester stopped near a large opening next to a huge fir tree. Aloysius jumped on him before he could stop himself. Chester disappeared into a hole. Cautiously, Aloysius peered into the darkness. Suddenly light flooded the spacious room as Chester lit a high floor.
