  • Essay / Animal Farm by George Orwell - 673

Animal Farm satirizes the Russian Revolution and magnifies the flaws of communism and totalitarianism in the composition of a fairy tale. The book “Animal Farm” was published in 1945 by George Orwell. Orwell writes to show the result of all people being equal… “but some are more equal than others”. Through a third-person perspective, Orwell clearly depicts individuals' naive loyalty to leaders and deceptive manipulation on the part of leaders. Orwell puts communism and totalitarianism under the microscope and exposes the realistic results these societies produce, while satirizing a fairy tale story of talking animals and tyrannical pigs. Animal Farm can be classified as either a fairy tale or a satire. The story tells of the mansion's farm which is overrun by animals and renamed Animal Farm. The animals founded their new farm on equality, free from human control or oppression. However, the pigs take over the farm and quickly become controlling and more and more like humans. At the end of the book, the pigs declare their intention to ally themselves with humans against all the working classes of the human and animal groups. And their decree of equality which stated: "all animals are equal", was distorted by the pigs to say: "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others". Animal Farm is considered a fairy tale because of its surreal qualities such as talking animals. However, it can also be called satire in that Orwell uses humor to encourage reform and maximize the flaws of communism and totalitarianism. Communism and totalitarianism are bad forms of government and, as the book Animal Farm shows, very flawed. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines communism as "a path... middle of paper... expelled by their successor Stalin (Napoleon). Another symbol used by Orwell was that of the faithful horse, Boxer. He possesses all the qualities of the exploited working class, such as hard work, determination and loyalty. He also demonstrated exorbitant naivety, fully trusting his authorities and honorable intentions, completely blind to the corruption of those in power. It represents the invisible work of individuals during a political drama carried out by elite politicians. Animal Farm is a fairy tale with a much deeper subject of the Russian Revolution hidden in the satires. It presents the unjust “equality” promised by communism. The book satirizes the manipulation of dictatorship and the innocent and blatant trust of citizens in their leaders. Orwell speaks about communism and totalitarianism from an outside perspective, revealing the many flaws of these societies..
