Essay / Reflection Summary - 640
Our team worked well together from our first meeting to our last. We first determined our roles on the team based on our interests, and then if we didn't get our ideal role, we chose what was left to choose from. My role was as a social worker, which was my first choice. When I took the Parker Team Player survey on myself, the results came back that I was a collaborator. However, when my teammate Ann, who was the team's speech therapist, did the investigation on me, it came back that I was a contributor. I found this quite interesting because when I did it, the survey contributor came back last. According to the survey, my teammate Ann viewed me as a task-oriented person and as someone who pushed the team to set high performance standards by using my resources wisely. I considered myself more of a goal-oriented person, more flexible and open to new ideas. Our team had someone who fit every role in the investigation and I think that's what helped us to be so well balanced. We determined the tasks based on the roles we played in most of our meetings. This seemed like the most logical solution and allowed us to move forward in an orderly manner. At each meeting, I always had the feeling that we had progressed in the tasks assigned to us and that we were each fulfilling our roles well. We began our first meeting by speaking with parents about their concerns to confirm if they still had the same concerns as those expressed at their first meeting according to our case study. Each team member asked questions based on their expertise and also discussed the results of their findings during their initial assessment. The parents didn't get along well, but as a team I felt we did a great job of addressing their concerns despite their hostility toward each other. In our second meeting, we completed ... middle of paper ... and Leigh took on leadership roles that were very positive for the group as a whole. I played the role of the social worker and I think especially in the early meetings where we were discussing the families' concerns, I played an important role, especially in addressing the fathers' concerns about money and medical bills . Knowing that in playing the role of a social worker it would likely be my role to resolve these issues is why I wanted this role since I have personal experience with both which allowed me to speak from experience. I learned that being part of a team that is completely focused on the task at hand is a great team. It also helped that each of us had different team member styles that we brought to the group that helped us maintain balance. Overall, I felt we made great progress in each meeting and I think we accomplished our task and all worked very well together..
