    Transportation has always been a necessity in human culture; it is the central point of past and modern societies since the appearance of man in the world. This is usually the deciding factor in whether a civilization will be considered a success or a failure. The Industrial Revolution completely changed America during the 19th century and, in turn, changed the way this nation traveled and lived. The Industrial Revolution was an event that divided the great nation that our founding fathers fought so hard to unite. The South, true to its agrarian lifestyle and culture, relied on slave labor as the basis of its economy while the North had begun to industrialize factory building and modernize technology. Many means of transportation were invented during this time, but nothing compared to railroads. Railroad innovation in America was a major success in the North. Many new jobs were created thanks to the railways while allowing the North to prosper and expand westward into the great country it is today. But there weren't only positive aspects...
