Macbeth's abuse of power made him greedy; however, he should not be held entirely responsible for his downfall. Macbeth was once a loyal war hero and loving husband who hated traitors and would never betray his king. Without the influence of the people around him, he would have lived happily with the honorable title of Thane of Cawdor. Many different factors played a central role in deciding his doomed future. Macbeth's downfall was triggered by the actions of those around him, such as his wife's sustained cajoling and the witches' predictions about his future. Macbeth never intended to kill his king, but was ultimately convinced that it was the right thing to do. A witch is defined as a very unpleasant woman who is attributed with evil supernatural powers. In the play Macbeth, three witches prophesied to Macbeth future events that led him to make the destructive decisions that brought about his downfall.
