Gehry and the committee were more conscious of how people could enter the building to make the Disney Concert Hall appear accessible to all and feel casual. Using the grand staircase at the corner of Grand and 1st streets brings the visitor into the building, but many find this staircase steep and disappointing. However, Gehry chose this experiment to undermine the greater expectations of classical music audiences. It was truly about the experience of the audience and the musician under the influence of the sound in the auditorium. Now celebrating ten years, Frank Gehry's vision for design remains strong: "I believe that the design of the Walt Disney Concert Hall suggests music, and I hope that when people attend concerts in the hall, their eyes will wander through the shapes of the building and discover that what they see harmonizes with the music they listen to. And not only has the Walt Disney Concert Wall shaped the visitors who experience a symphony there, but the venue has also had an overall influence on Los Angeles itself. Certain common characteristics make public spaces successful: Promotes human contact and social activities, is safe, welcoming and accommodating to all users, is visually interesting, promotes community involvement, reflects local culture or history and has a unique character. The Walt Disney Concert meets and exceeds all of these expectations. The interior of the performance hall alone has most of these features. The concert hall provides a place where all locals can return for a variety of concerts and is an attraction for visitors to the city looking to experience something out of the ordinary.From the start of the decision.... .. middle of paper ......alonen.
