Essay / What is psychology? - 1373
My choice of research focused on children's playful behavior as well as aggressiveness. Breaking the topic down further, behavior is linked to the psychology and psyche of each individual. The definition of psychology is “the science of the mind and behavior” (Clavijo, 2013). After reading Clavijo's article, I realized that psychology can be defined in three ways: the study of the mind, the study of behavior, and the study of the mind and behavior. In the text “The Developing Person” by Berger, behavior is learned through social learning. Children learn different behaviors through observation of others, both children and adults. Different people have effects on a child's life that can affect their behavior. A child's behavior is strongly influenced by his parents. A son may speak aggressively and disrespectfully toward his mother because that is how his father speaks to him and he thinks that is how he communicates with his mother (Berger, 200, 2012). By adopting playful behaviors, children learn from other children how to play. Most believe that cognitive growth depends on a child's play time. Both Vygotsky and Piaget believe that when children play it is beneficial, but according to Vygotsky, playing allows a child to think outside the box and create their own meaning from objects, using their imagination. Piaget believes that children benefit from playing together, sharing their knowledge and making their ideas and thoughts more concrete. There are four stages of play, with the fourth stage being the most complicated part and consisting of rules and guidelines for play. The lowest level or game would be functional play in which infants shake rattles, knock in their hands or blow... middle of paper... with blows, anger in words or violent actions. Simply turning around and throwing a tantrum can be considered aggression because Girl 2 is not able to communicate that she does not agree with the rules. So she gets out of the situation and only comes back when the game goes the way she wants. in his favor.Discussion: In this article, I learned that children base their actions on what they learned from their parents. In my findings, I could see that Daughter 1 treated Daughter 2 as her mother would, meaning that Daughter 1 cared for Daughter 2 as if she were a young child and she was a older and more mature child. Girl 2 also reacted in a way that is considered aggression to achieve her ends. The most interesting thing to me about this whole observation is that Berger was right that behavior is learned through the actions of their parents (Berger, 200, 2012).
