    Dehumanization in the Life Story of Frederick Douglass and MausThroughout history we learn of the mistreatment of many types of people. Several different groups of people have been sued and singled out for many different reasons. In recent history, African Americans and Jews have been targets of discrimination. Slavery and the Holocaust were created to make these groups of people feel inferior to those who controlled them. During both periods, those involved were treated as worthless and insignificant human beings. They have been brought down to the level of a mouse. In The Life of Frederick Douglass and Maus, the main characters, Vladek and Frederick, struggle daily to be seen as human beings by others. Their struggles show how humans can be treated like animals, denied the right to education, and haunted by what others have done to them. Frederick Douglass was born a slave. That's all he knew.
