This topic is very important to the type of place we live in now. I chose this topic to look at how and why these popes changed the Church to fit modern society. Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II have had different impacts on the Church today. Pope John XXIII had an impact on the Church in modern society after his death with the Vatican II assembly. Pope John Paul II went into the world to change it and accept it. He made a direct impact on the world by going out into the world. Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII were both very good at what they did and both had different ways of doing it. Both were great leaders and had to follow Lowney's four pillars of leadership in order to become as good a leader as they were. The four pillars are: Understanding one's strengths, weaknesses, values and worldview, Innovating and adapting confidently to adapt to a changing world, Engaging others in a positive and loving attitude, and Se energizing and energizing others with heroic ambition. These are the pillars that separate a good leader from a great one. In the essay, I will cover their history, leadership style, accomplishments as pope, and impact on the Church in the 20th century. Pope John Paul II was one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century. Pope John Paul II had a difficult life growing up. He was the only survivor of his family at 20 years old. He also lived in Poland during the Nazi occupation of Poland. These events made him a great and very strong leader. He was not a shy leader who spoke his mind about his beliefs very often. His motto “Totally yours” shows that he was a very open person. When he was pope, he had strong orthodox positions. Pope John Paul II did many things to influence the Catholic Church in the 20th century. He... middle of paper ... aul II had a different way of leading, he was strong and expressed his opinion on issues involving the world and the Church. Pope John XXIII was unable to see its impact on the Church. He started the movement by calling for Vatican II. Unlike Pope John XXIII, Pope John Paul II had a direct impact on the Church by going out into the world and seeing the impact he had on it. The two very different leadership methods worked because they both followed Lowney's four pillars: understanding one's strengths, weaknesses, values and worldview, innovating and adapting confidently to achieve success. adapt to a changing world, involve others in a positive and loving attitude and energize. oneself and others with heroic ambition. These four pillars have allowed these two leaders to be remembered as among the best, which is why they will be canonized by Pope Francis on April 27 of this year..
