  • Essay / After the Black Death in Europe, it is time for a new...

Europe in the late 15th century and early 16th century is classified as a time of change and the beginning of new beginnings. The Black Death left all of Europe in a state of extreme chaos and disorder. The population decreased considerably and the economic, social and political situation was extremely hampered. Thanks to the Reformation and the Renaissance, Europe finally began to recover somewhat from this catastrophe. This period of change became a cultural movement throughout Europe that began to reform and solve the problems people were facing. Social changes were made regarding the hierarchy in society. Political changes were made regarding the government of the city-states. And economic changes were made regarding available jobs and the sale of products. These changes are, individually, positive steps for Europe recovering from the Black Death. But problems arise when all these changes are combined and because of their scale. It's not that people are necessarily against these changes as a whole, but they just don't know what to think about them. In Utopia, More talks about a perfect society where there are rules to deal with all the economic, social and political problems that may arise. For those who had problems with the way Europe was changing in the 15th and 16th centuries, More invented Utopia to show that what was happening was not as bad as it seemed. When it came to social positions within a community, it became much easier to move classes around during this time. Hardworking men and women were able to work hard and earn money, then use that money to move up to a higher class. The nouveau riche were able to use their money to achieve higher social status and...... middle of paper......, but because of the strict rules, no change will ever occur in the future and no progress will be made; in turn, society would come to a standstill. While the rest of the world moved on, Utopia would find itself on its own island, slowly left behind, and eventually become a distant place. Europe is a place of prosperity and must continue to evolve as times change. There may be problems to overcome, but that's part of life. Not all changes in Europe are ideal and sometimes wars break out, but it is people speaking out, and the development of technology and lifestyles, that keep Europe at the forefront and progress towards greater success. best things. The utopian society seems ideal from afar, but up close it is far from being so. Reform in Europe may have been an unstable time, but it is what influenced Europe to be as it is today..
